About the Music by American Composers Series
The Music by American Composers Series was founded by Roger Briggs in 2004 with the commission of Soundings for Chamber Orchestra by Utah composer Marie Nelson Bennett.
This series, now in its seventh year, promotes the creation of new works by American Composers by commissioning and performing a new work for chamber orchestra each season.
The composers have been present for each of these premieres and several have presented master classes for local composers or have participated in the WSO’s pre-concert lectures.
Composers who have participated in the series include: Samuel Adler, Don Freund, David Stock, Bruce Hamilton, Leslie Sommer, Marie Nelson Bennett, Elliott Miles McKinley, and Edward Rutschman.
Adam Hill will be our featured composer for the 2012 season premiere on March 25th at the Mount Baker Theatre.
