Rhythm & Beauty

September 30 @ 3:00 pm

Mount Baker Theatre

We are thrilled to open our 43rd season with the premiere of a new piece by local composer Scott Henderson, titled Cascadiana. Inspired by the majesty of our natural landscape, the piece commemorates the 50th anniversary of the North Cascades National Park, established on October 2, 1968.

Known for his virtuosity and lyricism, internationally-renowned violinist Noah Bendix-Balgley joins us for Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1. Born in Asheville, N.C., Noah played for Lord Yehudi Menuhin when he was just 9 years old and has thrilled audiences around the world as a soloist, former Concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and first Concertmaster of the Berliner Philharmoniker.

Originally composed in 1866, this soulful concerto is one of Bruch’s most famous and most frequently-recorded works. The program finishes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, a celebratory and patriotic symphony, brimming with rhythm and triumph. Beethoven conducted the symphony’s 1813 premiere in Vienna to honor soldiers wounded in the Napoleonic Wars.

Join us as we celebrate the start of another incredible season!
